I once assumed that side conversations between Props, Costumes, and Makeup (PCMU) were just background noise, a sign of inefficiency. This almost led me to miss a critical sound cue that influenced a character's arc. I'd been so focused on booming overhead and mic'ing talent that I wasn't listening to the nuanced discussions happening just off-camera.
