Profit-Sharing in Reward Campaigns: Legal & Financial Minefield?

Hey everyone, I’m hoping someone with more experience in this area can chime in. I’m shooting a short film right now on my ALEXA Mini, and we're planning a reward-based crowdfunding campaign soon. The director is keen on offering future profit-sharing to higher-tier backers as a reward, kind of a 'get in on the ground floor' incentive. I'm just the operator, mostly focused on getting great images with my 4017 and LS 1200d Pro, but this profit-sharing idea immediately set off some alarms for me.

My concern is, are we accidentally treading into securities law territory here? We're talking about a small, independent film, not a publicly traded company. We don’t have a legal team or any fancy financial structures set up. Is promising a cut of any future revenue just a huge legal and financial pitfall waiting to happen if we don't have a formal securities structure in place? What are the practical implications and risks of doing something like that?
