Indie ADR: How do you tier 'critical' vs. 'luxury' fixes when the director wants every tweak?

Hey everyone, I'm producing an indie feature right now. We shot on an ALEXA Mini with an Angenieux EZ-1 zoom, and our sound recordist used an MKH 50 into a Sound Devices MixPre-10T. So, we've got solid source audio, but as expected, there are lines we need to ADR. I'm building out the post-production budget, and the guide I'm referencing talks about a tiered ADR approach, 'critical' fixes get priority, then 'luxury' performance tweaks if funds allow. My director, bless their heart, feels every single line that isn't absolutely perfect is a 'critical' performance tweak. They really want to dial in certain emotional nuances. On an indie budget, where every dollar counts, how do you realistically draw that line between what must be replaced for intelligibility or a factual error, and what's a performance ‘want’ that might be too expensive to chase? My current strategy has been doing a first pass with the director focused only on unintelligible lines, but then the perfectionist in them comes out on subsequent passes. How do you manage this expectation vs. budget reality?
