Streamlining Post: From Email Chains to Frame.io

Trying to manage client feedback and internal notes for a complex documentary series through email threads was a disaster; the breakthrough came with adopting Frame.io's review and approval system. Before, we’d spend hours compiling disparate comments in Google Docs, often missing key revisions or acting on outdated feedback, leading to multiple unnecessary rounds.

What worked was standardizing our review process: uploads went to Frame.io, specific team members were assigned to address comments, and client feedback was handled in dedicated, time-stamped annotations. The version stacking feature was invaluable, clearly showing progress and what had changed between cuts. What didn't work initially was the team's resistance to learning a new platform, but a short training session and the immediate efficiency gains quickly won everyone over. The ability to pull proxy files directly into proxies in DaVinci Resolve Studio for quick fixes without re-rendering full resolution masters was a lifesaver. We still sometimes get a rogue email with feedback, but it’s becoming rare.

Now that we've seen the power of integrated review tools, how do others handle final client approval on projects with dozens of deliverables, especially when those deliverables have very subtle differences?
