Adapting Ideal Look Development for Fast-Paced Shoots, Steadicam Op Perspective
Hey everyone,
I'm finding myself in a pretty common pickle lately and was hoping to tap into the collective wisdom here. I'm an operator, usually running my ARRI Mini, sometimes a KOMODO on more run-and-gun stuff. I often see breakdowns and articles detailing a really in-depth pre-production workflow, look books, extensive mood boards, thorough DIT prep for specific LUTS, etc.
It sounds great for feature work or bigger commercials with ample lead time. But on a lot of the projects I'm on (quick turnaround commercials, corporate docs, even some reality stuff) that kind of detailed, 'ideal' look development just isn't feasible. We're often making creative decisions on the fly, sometimes even camera and lens choices are changing day-of. I'm usually dealing with an M18 or a few PavoTubes, and we're just trying to get the shot in the can with a decent exposure.
I've tried pushing for more pre-vis where I can, or getting DPs to give me a general 'feel' they're aiming for, but it often gets lost in the rush. How have you all adapted this 'ideal' process for projects with limited pre-production and faster shooting schedules, especially when you're expected to maintain a consistent aesthetic?
