AI, VP, and Sustainability: Real Impact on Indie Pre-Production?
Hey everyone,
I'm Aisha Mbeki, a working director, and I'm really grappling with how fast things are shifting in our industry. I'm in pre-production on a new independent feature (a sci-fi drama) and I'm looking at ways to streamline and innovate without blowing our already tight budget.
I've been playing around with some AI tools for script breakdowns and even experimented with an AI voice generator for temp narration, which has been interesting. I've also been thinking about how to incorporate more sustainable practices, from energy use on set to sourcing props.
But the big question that keeps nagging at me, especially considering the buzz around virtual production too, is: How are the rise of AI tools, virtual production, and demands for sustainability most significantly changing the pre-production process for independent filmmakers today? Where are these trends actually making the biggest difference to our workflows and decisions before cameras even roll?
