DIY Intimacy Direction on Micro-Budgets: Seeking Practical Consent and Integrity Strategies

Hey everyone, I'm wearing a lot of hats on an upcoming micro-budget short film and honestly, I'm feeling a bit out of my depth with the intimacy scenes. As the script supervisor, I'm usually focused on continuity, but this time around, the director is really relying on me for practical advice on absolutely everything. We simply don't have the budget for an intimacy coordinator, and while we've both read up on general best practices, translating that into a structured, consent-forward workflow on a tight schedule is proving tricky.

We're talking about a couple of fairly straightforward, non-explicit kissing scenes, but I want to make sure the actors feel completely safe and respected, and that the integrity of the scene isn't compromised by awkwardness or miscommunication. We've considered pre-production conversations and setting clear boundaries, but I'm looking for more concrete, actionable 'how-to's' that don't require external resources.

For those of you who've directed or been involved in intimacy on tiny budgets, what are your most effective DIY strategies for establishing robust consent workflows and ensuring the scene still feels authentic and powerful? Are there specific types of verbal checks, warm-up exercises, or on-set protocols you've found invaluable?
