Intimacy Coordination: Ideal Workflows vs. On-Set Reality?
Hey everyone,
I'm Simone, a 2nd AD currently on a romantic drama and we have a few intimacy scenes coming up. I've been spending a lot of time reviewing best practices for consent workflows with an intimacy coordinator, and it all makes perfect sense on paper: clear communication, boundaries established, check-ins, etc.
However, I'm genuinely curious (and a little nervous) about how often the 'messy reality' of a fast-paced set actually disrupts these ideal plans. We all know how quickly schedules can change, how decisions are made on the fly, and the pressure to 'just get the shot.'
Has anyone been in situations where the planned consent process for intimacy had to be adapted super quickly due to unforeseen circumstances on set? How did you manage to maintain consent and scene integrity without derailing the production? I'd love to hear some real-world experiences.
