Trying to match virtual lighting to real-world objects in an LED volume was a huge learning curve on a recent shoot. What truly made a difference was understanding and effectively using reflection probes within Unreal Engine, rather than solely relying on direct virtual lights for fill. Initially, I was adding more and more virtual spotlights and area lights, trying to sculpt the scene, which often led to a flat, overly lit look on the talent interacting with physical props in front of the screen.
