Integrating Character Bibles, Actioning, and Silent Takes without Overwhelm?

Hey everyone, as an AD, I'm constantly looking for ways to streamline and deepen the pre-production process, especially when it comes to actor preparation. I've been experimenting with concepts like Character Bibles (essentially detailed backstories and motivations) and trying to action the script more thoroughly, breaking down scenes into specific actor objectives. I also see the value in silent takes for focusing performance, but I'm worried about hitting actors with too much, or making the whole pre-production phase feel like an academic exercise rather than a creative one.

My current project is an indie drama, and I've tried introducing brief character notes, but the actors sometimes seemed a bit glazed over. I understand these are powerful tools individually, but how do you folks integrate these techniques into a cohesive personal workflow on set and in prep, without overwhelming the talent or bogging down the schedule?
