DaVinci Resolve's Fairlight is Underrated and Underutilized.
For professional audio post-production for motion picture, DaVinci Resolve's Fairlight page is not merely 'good enough,' it actively outshines dedicated DAWs like Pro Tools in workflow efficiency for visual media. While many cling to Pro Tools out of habit, Fairlight offers a fully integrated, non-destructive, and visually intuitive toolkit for sound designers and mixers working directly within the same project file as the editor and colorist. Its tight integration means no more AAF/OMF round-tripping headaches, no syncing issues between picture changes and sound mixes, and a truly collaborative environment where color, edit, and audio can live and breathe together. I've seen firsthand how projects bogged down by export/import cycles dramatically streamline when teams commit to Resolve end-to-end. Of course, Pro Tools has a massive plugin ecosystem and a long-standing industry presence, and for pure music production, it's still king. But for film and television, the benefits of Fairlight's seamless integration and powerful yet often overlooked tools, from advanced ADR features to automated loudness correction, are undeniable. Are we simply too entrenched in legacy systems to embrace a more efficient future for audio post in film?
