My Love-Hate Relationship with Shot Designer

I've been experimenting with Shot Designer for blocking and shot listing pre-production, and while it's incredibly powerful for visualization, its practical application on set is a mixed bag. The drag-and-drop interface for characters and cameras is fantastic for quickly mocking up complex camera movements and actor paths, and I've found it invaluable for communicating with directors during prep. However, once we're on set and adapting to real-world constraints, the software often feels too clunky for rapid, on-the-fly adjustments. Trying to quickly tweak a camera position or actor mark in Shot Designer mid-scene takes more time than just sketching it out on a physical floor plan or calling out changes.

What worked was the pre-visualization; it helped us avoid some blocking issues before they became expensive problems. What didn't work was its real-time utility for dynamic changes. I tried using it on a tablet, thinking the touchscreen would be faster, but the small screen and intricate controls still led to fumbling. How do other script supervisors integrate detailed blocking software into their fast-paced on-set workflow without losing efficiency?
