Assistant Editor, Documentary Feature (Volunteer)
Hey Austin film community! I'm James, a sound designer working on an independent documentary feature, and we're looking for an enthusiastic Assistant Editor to join our team. This film explores the vibrant, often unseen, world of Austin's underground music scene, focusing on the unique challenges and triumphs of independent artists. It's a passion project with a lot of heart, aiming for a raw, authentic, and intimate tone. We've compiled a ton of great footage and are moving into the post-production phase. If you're looking to gain valuable feature film experience, this is a fantastic opportunity to work alongside experienced filmmakers and contribute significantly to a compelling story. Key responsibilities include organizing and syncing footage, creating dailies, preparing sequences for editor review, managing media, and assisting with various post-production tasks. You'll be working closely with our lead editor and director, learning the ropes of feature-length documentary workflows. We're open to all experience levels, from students to seasoned pros looking to add a documentary feature to their reel. Strong organizational skills and familiarity with Adobe Premiere Pro are a big plus. While not strictly required, having your own editing setup (laptop with Premiere) would be helpful, though we can make arrangements if needed. We'll be working on a flexible schedule, roughly 10-20 hours a week, primarily remote with occasional in-person meetings here in Austin. This is a volunteer position, but you'll receive full credit, meals on any in-person workdays, and an excellent portfolio piece. Production is ongoing, but post-production will ramp up significantly over the next 3-6 months. We're aiming to begin cutting within the next few weeks. Send over your resume and a brief introduction about why this project interests you.
