EMA Green Seal & Creative Freedom: A Cinematographer's Query

Hey everyone, Rohan here. I've been wrestling with a question lately that's come up on a few calls. I'm prepping for a narrative feature, aiming for a pretty raw, almost guerilla style with my ALEXA Mini LF and a set of old Kowa anamorphics. We're on a tight budget, really pushing what we can do on location with just a couple of SkyPanel S60-Cs and some Helios Tubes. The producer mentioned that for festival submissions, specifically thinking Sundance, the EMA Green Seal certification is becoming a major factor, if not a requirement already.

This immediately made me think about our shooting process. Even small things, like swapping out batteries for my Orbiter or how we power our follow focus, suddenly feel scrutinized. My main concern is, how do you all see this evolving requirement impacting creative freedom in the next five years? Do you think it will steer what kinds of stories get greenlit, perhaps favoring narratives that are easier to produce sustainably? Or will it push innovation that ultimately expands our storytelling capabilities? I'm genuinely curious about your thoughts and experiences here.
