Micro-Budget Video Village: Prioritizing Just One or Two Key Items?
Hey fellow filmmakers, I'm working on a micro-budget short right now, and one area I'm really scratching my head over is the video village setup. I keep hearing about how crucial it is for the director and DP to see what's being shot, but with our budget, a full video village is just not possible. We can realistically only afford one or perhaps two key pieces of equipment for this. I've tried just having the director crowding around the camera's built-in screen, but that's not sustainable or efficient. My current thought is maybe a decent on-board monitor for the director, but then the AD and scripty are still left out. For those of you who've been in this exact boat with extremely limited funds, how did you prioritize? What one or two items gave you the most bang for your buck in terms of decision-making and workflow on set?
