Character Arcs & On-Set Derailment: How Did You Adapt?

I'm Ngozi Emeka, a working screenwriter, and I've been wrestling with something lately. We all pour our hearts into crafting those character arcs, building them meticulously around a character's wants and needs, confident they'll sing on screen. In theory, if it's well-constructed, it should survive the edit, right? But then reality hits. Budgets shrink, schedules get tighter than a drum, or an actor's performance just isn't quite hitting the nuanced beats you envisioned.

I've had a couple of instances where a supporting character's growth felt completely gutted in the final cut due to scene trims for pacing, and it's frustrating. It feels like a fundamental part of the story disappears. So, I'm genuinely curious: When did a character's meticulously planned arc get completely derailed during production or post-production for budgetary, scheduling, or performance reasons? More importantly, how did you adapt? Did you rewrite? Lean on voiceover? Find new ways to imply the arc through existing footage? I'm looking for some real-world strategies here.
