Ideal Greenlight Process vs. Reality: Where's the Biggest Disconnect?

I'm Ngozi Emeka, a screenwriter, and I recently took one of those 'Development & Packaging Masterclasses.' It painted a really clear, almost utopian, path to getting a project greenlit, perfect script, dream cast attached, clear market strategy, etc. It feels very streamlined.

But I'm currently trying to push a historical drama, and the reality has been... fluid. Between an unexpected lead actor dropping out at a crucial moment and distributors suddenly pivoting their content needs, it feels like I'm constantly scrambling to adapt, re-package, and rethink my approach.

From your experience, especially when unforeseen production challenges hit, or the market just shifts under your feet, where do you find the biggest disconnects between that 'ideal' greenlight process and the messy, ever-changing reality of actually getting a film made?
