Iceberg Method vs. Production Reality: When to Fake It?

Hey everyone, Diana here, working as an AD/Producer. I'm genuinely trying to wrap my head around the 'Iceberg Method', building out that unseen 90% of your world for true depth. It sounds fantastic in theory, and I've seen it work wonders on larger, longer-term projects. However, in the brutal, fast-paced reality of many productions I'm on, especially the ones with tight budgets and even tighter schedules, dedicating that much time to 'unseen' world-building feels like a luxury we just don't have.

I've tried sketching out extensive character backstories or detailed location histories, only to realize we're cutting crucial scenes just to make our day. So, my question is: when is the Iceberg Method truly impractical? And for those times when you simply can't afford that deep dive, what are your best strategies for 'faking' that sense of depth effectively, without actually doing all the groundwork? How do you hint at a richer world without actually building it?
