Art Department for Documentary
Hey Austin film community, I'm helping a colleague find a talented Senior Art Director for an upcoming independent documentary project. This isn't your typical talking-head doc; it's a visually driven exploration of forgotten public art installations around Texas, aiming for a nostalgic, slightly melancholic, and deeply artistic tone. We're looking for someone to lead the artistic vision, from set dressing and prop sourcing to occasional practical effects, ensuring a cohesive and evocative aesthetic throughout. Key responsibilities include collaborating with the director on visual concepts, designing and executing set pieces, managing a small art department budget, and overseeing any necessary art fabrication or refurbishment for specific locations. Experience working with period-specific aesthetics (70s-90s) and a strong eye for detail are essential. You'll need to hit the ground running, bringing your own essential tools and a strong portfolio demonstrating your creative range and practical skills, especially in lower-budget environments. Shoot dates are approximately late October through November, with potential for some pre-production work in early October. Expect long but rewarding days, typically 10-12 hours. We'll provide craft services, lunch on set, and, of course, daily compensation of $200-400, depending on experience. Please provide a link to your reel/portfolio in your application.
