Hybrid Release Strategy: Day-and-Date vs. Exclusive Window?
Hey everyone,
I'm Tanya Volkov, a working DP, and I'm wrestling with a release strategy question for a recent project. It's an indie drama we shot primarily on an ALEXA Mini with a mix of vintage primes and some newer Cooke S7/i lenses. We had a pretty tight budget, but the finished film is looking great. Lighting mostly involved our LS 300x with a big softbox and a few Astera tubes.
Historically, I've seen films I've worked on go various routes, but I'm trying to wrap my head around the optimal hybrid release for this film. We’re weighing a day-and-date launch across TVOD and potentially AVOD, against a 30-day TVOD exclusive window before hitting broader platforms.
From a creative and financial perspective, how do you make that call? What factors are you prioritizing when deciding between immediate wide access and a more structured, exclusive rollout? I'm genuinely curious about the thought process, not just 'what's popular now.'
Really appreciate any insights you all might have.
