ACES vs. Log-to-Rec.709 for Indie Filmmakers: When to Keep it Simple?

Hey everyone,

I'm a composer dabbling in a bit of indie filmmaking on the side, and I'm currently producing a short film with a small crew and a pretty tight turnaround. We're shooting on an AMIRA and a C70, lighting primarily with an LS 300x and some PavoTube II 30X, and I'm really trying to make sure our post-production pipeline is efficient.

I've been looking into color workflows, and while ACES is championed in a lot of guides for its robustness and future-proofing, I'm wondering about the practicalities for an indie scenario like ours. We don't have a dedicated colorist; I'm handling a lot of the initial passes myself before sending it off for a final grade.

My instinct has been to stick with a well-managed Log-to-Rec.709 process, ensuring everything is properly converted, but I'm getting internal pressure to consider ACES. For a small team with a tight deadline, where exactly does the 'tipping point' lie where ACES becomes more of a burden than a benefit, and a solid Log workflow is simply more practical and efficient?
