Act Two Out of Order: Personalizing Screenwriting Structures?
Hey everyone, Nina here. I'm deep into a historical drama right now, and the Act Two slog is hitting hard. I've been trying to follow the advice of writing Act Two scenes out of order to keep momentum, focusing on the high-intensity moments first, then circling back for the connective tissue. It helps kickstart my brain, no doubt, but then I find myself wrestling with the sequence later, trying to make the emotional arc flow naturally. It feels a bit like building a puzzle from the edges inwards. Before this, I'd generally write linearly, but then I'd hit those mid-point energy dips. So, for those of you who've been around the block a few times, how have you personally twisted or adapted established screenwriting structures to fit your own creative flow and keep the story propulsion going?
