How is new tech changing traditional option/purchase agreements for writers?
Hey everyone,
I'm Ngozi Emeka, a working screenwriter. I'm currently developing a spec script with a really unique premise, and the topic of acquiring rights for IP has been rattling around my brain a lot lately. Given the explosion of self-publishing, online marketplaces for stories, and even the advancements in AI-assisted writing tools, I'm genuinely curious about something.
My usual process involves pitching, getting outlines approved, then writing, all within pretty traditional studio/production company structures. But I'm seeing so many new avenues for content creation and distribution emerge.
How do you all see these new technologies impacting the traditional option and purchase landscape for writers? Are we nearing a point where these agreements might need fundamental changes to keep up with how content is created and distributed? I'm trying to wrap my head around what the future of these deals might look like.
