Adjusting the 40/40/20 Rule for Specific Camera Features?

Hey everyone,

I'm Darius, a Best Boy Electric, and I'm putting together a pitch for a short I want to produce. I’ve always heard about the 40/40/20 budget rule (40% for camera/lenses, 40% for crew, 20% for everything else), and it generally makes sense. However, I'm really eyeing a camera like the KOMODO-X for its internal RAW, or even a C70 for the full-frame look for this specific project.

My concern is if prioritizing one of those features means I have to pull more heavily from other budget areas than just the typical 40% camera slice. For example, if I allocate more to get that internal RAW camera, how does that ripple through the rest of the budget? Should I be cutting crew, or maybe less for grip/electric gear like SkyPanel S60-Cs and LS 300x lights? I've been trying to tweak numbers but it feels like a total balancing act.

How do you guys approach the 40/40/20 rule when a specific camera feature becomes a primary production goal?
