Dolby Vision 2's 'Light Sense' and Bi-Directional Tone Mapping: Workflow Impact?
Hey everyone, Luc here, Steadicam Op on a feature with an ALEXA Mini, shooting almost exclusively outside lately. We’re doing some HDR delivery for a streamer, and I’m genuinely curious about where things are heading. I keep hearing whispers about Dolby Vision 2's 'Light Sense' and bi-directional tone mapping, and how they're supposed to be game-changers. I haven’t had a chance to really dig into the technical specs yet. For those of you already playing with these or who have a better grasp on the upcoming tech, how do you see these advancements actually altering our established HDR workflow? Specifically, from a creative standpoint and the practicalities on set, does it mean we need to think differently about lighting ratios with our Orbiters or managing highlights when we're seeing scenes with extreme dynamic range? Will it simplify things or add more layers to consider for the camera department? Would love to hear your insights.
