Dealing with Imperfect Burn-Ins for Sound Sync?

Hey everyone,

I'm Ben Castillo, a Stunt Coordinator, and I've got a practical problem I could use some insight on. On an upcoming action sequence, we're doing a lot of pre-viz and second unit shoots. Ideally, every reference video would come with perfect burn-ins, timecode, frame rate, all of it dialed. But let's be real, that's not always the case. I've been getting some dailies, shot on a RED V-RAPTOR XL and a C300 Mark III, where the burn-ins are either missing crucial info or just flat-out wrong. The DIT is swamped, and the director's pushing for turnaround. I'm trying to avoid a nightmare scenario later in post where sound is off by frames for a crucial impact. So far, I'm just eyeballing and making extensive notes for every take, but it feels prone to error. Has anyone developed a consistent workflow or set of practical steps to deal with these 'real-world' incomplete or incorrect burn-ins to still ensure sound sync down the line?
