Integrating Actor Preparation Techniques into Production - Seeking Advice!
Hey everyone, I'm a Casting Associate working on a couple of independent shorts and features. I'm really trying to elevate the performance capture in our auditions and on set, particularly with actor preparation. I'm a big believer in the power of techniques like character bibles, actioning the script beat by beat, and even utilizing silent takes to really get to the core of a moment.
The challenge I'm running into is how to effectively integrate these without bogging down our already tight pre-production schedules or overwhelming the actors with too much 'homework.' We're often working with limited rehearsal time. I've experimented with providing character prompts and encouraging actioning in self-tapes, but sometimes it feels like a fragmented approach.
For those of you who successfully use these kinds of techniques, how do you weave them into a cohesive personal workflow that genuinely supports the actors and benefits the production, rather than adding extra stress?
