What were your biggest blunders with pitch materials and synopses?

Hey everyone,

I'm Nina, a working screenwriter, and currently I'm juggling a couple of projects, both at different stages, but the common thread is getting the 'writer's deliverables' right. I'm talking synopses, pitch decks, character breakdowns - all that stuff that comes before the actual script often gets read.

I've been trying to keep mine concise and compelling, really focusing on the unique hook and the emotional core. For one project, a sci-fi thriller, I found myself getting bogged down in world-building details, expanding far beyond what's needed for a simple synopsis. For the other, a dramedy, I worried my pitch wasn't light enough, even though the script has a lot of humor.

Thinking back to when you were starting out, what were the most common mistakes you (or others you've seen) made when putting together these materials? Any specific blunders that almost cost you a greenlight, and what did you learn from them?
