On-Set Look Management Without DIT/Filmbox: Practical Workflows?

Hey everyone,

I'm Isabella, a Line Producer constantly juggling budgets and creative ambitions. I often work on indie features and commercials where a full DIT station with dedicated software like Filmbox or a live Resolve setup just isn't in the cards. We're generally shooting on an ALEXA Mini or an AMIRA, sometimes a RED, and the DPs always have a vision for the look.

My current workaround involves a lot of communication with the DP during pre-production, some basic LUTs baked into the monitor feeds, and making sure the photography unit feels like they have a good reference. But it often feels like we're just hoping for the best until post. I've tried using a SmallHD with some pre-loaded LUTs, but it's not a truly 'managed' look.

For those of you regularly working on projects without the budget for a dedicated DIT and advanced grading tools on set, how do you effectively manage and communicate live looks? What are your simplified workflows to achieve consistent, intended visuals without the high-end tech?
