Scene Complexity: Beyond Green/Yellow/Red?
Hey everyone, Grace Nakamura here. I'm currently working on a sci-fi pilot, and we're trying to streamline our casting process, especially for the more intricate scenes. I've been looking at some general advice that suggests stratifying scene complexity into 'Green/Yellow/Red', basically simple, moderate, and highly complex. It's a solid starting point, but I'm finding myself wanting a bit more nuance.
For instance, some 'yellow' scenes feel more like a 'light red' due to very specific emotional beats or technical requirements, even if the dialogue isn't extensive. And some 'green' scenes could actually be trickier if they involve extensive physical comedy or a very specific, hard-to-find type.
I’m curious how others in the community have personalized this system. Do you use more categories? Are there specific criteria you look at beyond just dialogue and character count when classifying a scene's complexity for casting purposes? Any insights on how you break it down are much appreciated!
