Adapting Ideal Look-Book-to-Grade Workflows to Fast-Paced Shoots?
Hey everyone, I was reading this piece on comprehensive color workflows, taking things from a mood board all the way through a perfect grade. It sounds incredible, but honestly, it feels a bit out of reach for most of the stuff I grip on, think quick-turn commercials or doc segments. We're often shooting on an ARRI, sometimes a VENICE 2, and lighting with SkyPanel X or M18s, but pre-pro can be compressed to days, not weeks.
My usual process for these types of jobs is just trying to get good, clean exposure and letting the DIT or colorist figure it out. We do light meter consistently, but I’ve rarely been involved in a true 'look book' process beyond a few reference stills. How do you guys bridge that gap? Are there specific shortcuts or priorities you focus on when time is tight, but you still want a cohesive look? I'm curious about practical 'on-the-fly' strategies.
