When do you start thinking about the legal details of an option/purchase agreement?
Hey everyone, as someone actively trying to get my feature script, 'The Ember Dawn,' out there, I'm finding myself increasingly aware of the legal side of things. I've been pitching, submitting to contests, and taking meetings, which is exciting, but also new territory. Up until now, I've mostly focused on the creative work and nailing the story. I know I should educate myself on option agreements, purchase agreements, and all the jargon, but I'm unsure when that education should translate into my 'workflow.' Do people have a checklist they go through before pitching specific projects? Or do you wait until there's genuine interest before diving into the nitty-gritty? How have you integrated understanding these legal basics into your personal process when it comes to pitching or submitting scripts?
