Tech's Impact on Option/Purchase Agreements - Are They Still Fit for Purpose?

I'm a working screenwriter, balancing projects like most of us. Lately, I've been wrestling with the standard option/purchase agreements on a couple of my scripts. One's a crime thriller I've been shopping for a while, and the other is a sci-fi concept that I actually used some AI tools to brainstorm world-building for, just to see what would happen. It was surprisingly helpful for generating initial ideas.

But the more I think about it, the more I wonder about the traditional landscape. With all the self-publishing platforms, online script marketplaces popping up, and now even AI-assisted writing becoming more common (not to mention the direct-to-consumer distribution models) do our current option and purchase agreements still make sense? They feel a bit...analog in a digital world.

Are we looking at a future where these agreements need fundamental changes to keep pace with how content is being created, shared, and monetized? I'm curious what others are seeing and thinking. How do you see new technology impacting the traditional option/purchase landscape for writers?
