AI in Editorial: How 'Artist-Technologist' applies to our workflow now?

Hey everyone,

I'm Chris O'Brien, a Key Grip, and I'm genuinely trying to wrap my head around something I've heard bouncing around. Folks are saying editors are becoming 'artist-technologists' with all these new AI tools for post-production. On set, we're still running an AMIRA through an LS 600d Pro rig, and I'm usually wrangling a couple of M18s for fills, so my day-to-day for lighting hasn't changed drastically.

But for you editors out there, specifically, how has the integration of AI tools for things like B-roll generation or audio cleanup changed your everyday creative decision-making compared to, say, five years ago? I'm talking about the practical, on-the-timeline choices. Are you approaching cuts differently? Does it free you up to experiment more, or does it box you in? For example, if you're working on something where we shot on a C70 and recorded audio on a MixPre-6 II, does the AI cleanup mean you're not fighting poor source as much, and can focus on story beats more? Just trying to understand the ripple effect from my end of the production line.
