Adapting the 'Hybrid Kit' Lens Strategy for Freelance Doc Work?

Hey everyone, Amara here. I'm deep into pre-production for a new documentary feature, and I'm really trying to optimize my gear strategy. I usually shoot with my FX3 and an a7S III for B-cam, paired with a few core prime lenses like my Sigma 24mm, 50mm, and 85mm. For lighting, I mostly rely on a LS 300x and an amaran 150c.

I've heard a lot about the 'hybrid kit' philosophy, owning your reliable workhorse lenses and renting specialty glass as needed (like a nice anamorphic or a super fast cine prime). But I'm finding it tricky to apply this effectively to my freelance documentary world, where budgets can fluctuate wildly, and 'specialty' lenses might be different for each project. Sometimes a project calls for long-range wildlife, other times it's intimate interviews.

How have you guys adapted this core-and-rent approach to fit your own freelance cinematography business and the scale of your typical projects?
