Early Career Producer Pitfalls: Calendars, Docs, Version Control - Seeking Wisdom!

Hey everyone,

Simone here, 2nd AD on a local indie feature we're prepping. I've been reflecting a lot lately on my own journey and some of the workflow headaches I caused in my early days, mostly due to inexperience, bless my heart. I'm trying to put together a little internal guide for our newer PAs and perhaps even aspiring producers.

Specifically, I'm thinking about the foundational stuff: calendars, shared documents, and version control. I remember the nightmare of conflicting schedules, outdated call sheets floating around, and not knowing which script draft was the real script. It was chaos.

For those of you with more experience, especially producers, what are the most common pitfalls you've seen new producers fall into concerning these areas? And, more importantly, what’s your absolute top piece of advice to avoid those specific issues?

Any insights would be hugely appreciated!
