Navigating Software Costs: Resolve vs. Adobe/AI in Tight Budget Times?

Hey everyone,

Liam here, focus pulling on a project shot on an AMIRA with a set of Supreme Primes. We’re getting really squeezed on post-production budgets lately, and it's making me scratch my head about software.

I’ve been a Premiere fan for years, and the integration with plugins, especially some of the AI tools for things like rotoscoping or noise reduction, has been a lifesaver. But those monthly subscription costs, plus the plugin fees, really add up, especially when there’s no fat left to trim elsewhere.

I’ve dabbled with DaVinci Resolve a bit, mainly for color, but haven't really pushed it as an all-in-one editor. It's free, obviously, and increasingly powerful.

How are you all balancing the power and familiarity of something like Premiere (with its ecosystem of paid AI tools) against the free-but-steep-learning-curve of Resolve, especially when budgets are shrinking project-to-project? Are folks making the full switch, or finding clever ways to justify the Adobe/plugin costs? What’s your workflow looking like for efficiency and cost-saving right now?
