Scene-Referred on a Shoestring: Where to Prioritize?

Hey everyone,

I'm a camera operator, Tyler Morrison, and I'm wrestling with something. I've been doing a lot more indie work lately with tighter budgets, and I'm really trying to push for a more robust scene-referred workflow, even on these smaller gigs. Typically I'm on an ALEXA Mini or a V-RAPTOR XL, so I'm used to a certain level of control, but when I'm shooting on something like a Pocket Cinema Camera 6K G2 or a LUMIX S1H for an indie project, it feels like I'm always fighting to get things 'right' early.

My problem is, with super tight budgets, where do you even start prioritizing resources for scene-referred? I know color accuracy is key, but I can't always justify renting an Orbiter or a full set of PavoTube II 30X for every minor setup. I'm wondering if there are any clever shortcuts or essential gear swaps that can get me 80% of the way there without significant expense. Maybe a specific type of color card, or knowing where to reallocate what little lighting budget I have. Or is it more about specific monitoring gear during the shoot? Any thoughts on where that limited budget should really go first?
