Indie Film Loudness & Compliance: Budget-Constrained Solutions?

Hey everyone, Erik Lindström here. I'm hitting a wall with an indie feature I'm mixing on. We shot on a C70 with a fairly tight budget, so the audio budget basically ended when I wrapped production with my MixPre-10 II and MKH 416. Now I'm in post, and the more I read about 'Loudness and Compliance' standards for distribution, the more my head spins. We don't have a dedicated post-production sound mixer, nor the budget for fancy loudness meters or plugins.

My question is, for those of you who work on super low-budget indie projects, how do you tackle this? Are there any free or super cheap tools, or even specific techniques, that a one-person band can use to prevent the film from being rejected for being too quiet or too loud? I'm trying to avoid that nightmare scenario. Any practical advice would be greatly appreciated.
