Hybrid Release Strategy: Day-and-Date vs. Exclusive Window?
Hey everyone, I'm Lucas, a Gaffer usually focused on getting the lighting right (currently loving the Forza 720B for our exteriors, paired with an AMIRA for our main unit). But on a recent indie feature I helped out on, we're now moving into distribution discussions, and frankly, my head's spinning with the release strategy options.
We've been debating between a day-and-date TVOD/AVOD launch versus doing a 30-day TVOD exclusive window first. We've tried to forecast revenue for both, but it feels like a dartboard sometimes. We’re not a huge studio, just a passionate team who poured everything into this project, shooting most of it on an ALEXA Mini with a few GH6 B-cam shots.
For those of you with more experience on the business side, how do you genuinely decide the optimal hybrid release strategy for your specific film?
