Maintaining Comp Consistency with Freelancers: Grain/CA Template Best Practices?

Posted by Diana Ruiz-Perez in Post-Production 0 views · 3 replies

Hey everyone, Diana Ruiz-Perez here. I'm currently producing a short film shot on an ALEXA 35 and an AMIRA. We're using a handful of freelance compositors for different segments, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to maintain a consistent 'final look' across all their work, especially concerning things like grain and chromatic aberration.

I've generated a base comp template in DaVinci Resolve with a specific grain structure and a subtle chromatic aberration from our DIT's initial tests, based on the Arri DNA lenses. My current approach is to give them this template as a starting point. However, I'm worried about inconsistencies creeping in due to different software, workflows, or even just individual artistic interpretations.

For those of you who've successfully implemented a 'global comp template' for grain or CA with multiple freelance artists, how have you handled it effectively? What are your strategies to ensure that the final output from different artists truly matches the intended look?
