Minimal Gear, Maximal Reports: Post-Production Sound Reporting on Micro-Budgets

Hey everyone, I'm Brianna, a Casting Associate who occasionally ducks into other production roles out of necessity. My sound kit is pretty lean, usually a MixPre-6 II, a couple of MKH 50s, and a Sync E. I mostly find myself on micro-budget shorts or indie features shot on R5 Cs or GH6s, often with a bare-bones crew.

My dilemma is the sound report. I know how crucial detailed reports are for post, especially for dialogue editors and mixers. But when I'm pulling double duty, wrangling mics, monitoring levels, and often doing a bit of boom operating myself, writing elaborate notes becomes almost impossible. I've tried scribbling frantically on paper, but it's rarely legible or comprehensive enough.

For those of you regularly on small, fast-paced sets without a dedicated sound utility or cart logging software, what are your strategies for creating effective production sound reports that post-production will actually use and appreciate? How do you balance speed with detail?
