Entry-Level Locations Assistant (Doc Feature)
Looking for a Locations Assistant to join our small, passionate documentary team in NYC. This is a feature-length project exploring the vibrant, underground creative scenes across the five boroughs, with a focus on intimate character stories and authentic, observational filmmaking. We're looking for someone excited by the challenge of finding unique, compelling backdrops that truly tell a story without being intrusive. Your primary responsibilities will include scouting potential filming locations (parks, cafes, artists' studios, performance spaces, etc.), assisting with location permits and releases, communicating with property owners, and providing general on-set support for location-related needs. You'll work closely with the Director and DPs to understand their vision and translate that into practical scouting efforts. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to get their foot in the door on a larger project and learn the ropes of documentary production. No specific gear required from your end, but a strong sense of navigation, good communication skills, and a willingness to be resourceful are essential. Some experience with basic research or organization is a plus, although this is an entry-level role. Please share any relevant work or projects you've been a part of. Shoot dates are TBD, likely starting late spring 2024 through summer, with flexible part-time hours initially. We're a small, independent production, and this position is offered on a partnership (revenue share) basis, perfect for someone deeply invested in the project's success. We'll cover travel expenses within NYC during active scouting days.
