Gaffer for Indie Feature, Brooklyn, NY

An independent production is seeking a talented and experienced Gaffer to join our crew for an upcoming feature film. This project is a character-driven drama with elements of psychological thriller, set in contemporary Brooklyn. We're aiming for a grittier, naturalistic aesthetic, so your eye for practical lighting and subtle mood-setting will be key. We're a passionate team and looking for someone who can contribute creatively while working efficiently within our budget. Key responsibilities include designing and executing lighting plots, managing a small grip and electric team, ensuring safety on set, and collaborating closely with the Director of Photography to achieve the film's visual style. You'll be responsible for all lighting setups, including power distribution and fixture placement. This is a senior role, so we need someone who can lead and problem-solve effectively on the fly. Applicants should have extensive gaffing experience on narrative features or high-end shorts, a strong understanding of various lighting techniques, and familiarity with a range of lighting equipment. Please have your own basic kit (meters, gels, stands, etc.), though larger packages (generator, HMI/LED units) will be provided by production. A professional reel showcasing your work is required. Shoot dates are approximately 18-20 days, mostly weekdays, primarily in Brooklyn, starting late August or early September 2026. Hours will be typical 10-12 hour days. Lunch and craft services will be provided daily. Compensation is TBD, commensurate with experience and industry rates.
