Production for Short Film

Our independent production is looking for a seasoned Gaffer to join our small, dedicated team for an upcoming short film in New York, NY. This dramatic short explores themes of resilience and memory, featuring intimate character moments and stylized urban landscapes. We aim for a visually rich, emotive aesthetic that relies heavily on evocative lighting to tell its story without much dialogue. Key responsibilities include collaborating closely with the Director of Photography to translate the visual concept into practical lighting setups, managing and leading the lighting crew, ensuring safe operation of all electrical equipment, and troubleshooting on set. You'll be responsible for planning and executing complex lighting schemes for various locations, both interior and exterior. We require candidates with extensive experience as a Gaffer on narrative projects, particularly those with a strong visual component. A understanding of various lighting techniques, equipment, and safety protocols is essential. Please provide a link to your reel or portfolio showcasing your lighting work. Owning a basic lighting package is a plus, but not strictly required, as we will provide a comprehensive gear package for the shoot. The approximate shoot dates are for 1-2 days in October 2026, with an additional prep day prior. Hours will be standard 10-12 hour days. Compensation is $500-800/day, based on experience. We'll provide meals and local transportation during the shoot.
