Legal Protections on a Micro-Budget: What's Realistic?

Hey everyone,

I'm mainly a camera operator, usually wrangling an ALEXA Mini or a KOMODO-X for various projects. Lately, I've been trying to get some micro-budget narrative stuff off the ground myself, and the amount of legal talk I'm encountering is a bit overwhelming. Every article or seasoned producer talks about iron-clad contracts, E&O insurance, and thorough legal reviews for every single aspect.

My budget for legal counsel on a short film I'm planning, shot on an FX3 with a couple of LS 600d Pros, is, well, practically zero. I've been trying to piece together templates online and feeling totally out of my depth. For those of you who've successfully made projects with shoestring budgets, how did you handle the legal side of things? Did you just cross your fingers? What are the absolute, most critical and cost-effective legal protections that a micro-budget filmmaker must prioritize to avoid major headaches down the line? Any advice on where to even start without breaking the bank would be massively appreciated.
