Practical Lighting Compromises: Share Your应急 Measures!

Hey everyone,

I'm a camera operator, usually on an ALEXA Mini or V-RAPTOR XL. We always shoot for perfect CRI/TLCI and smooth dimming, especially with practicals. But let's be real, on a chaotic set for a corporate gig or indie short, the ideal often flies out the window. Time, budget, or just plain availability mean we can't always get the precise bulb or dimming solution we want.

I recently had to shoot a scene with existing fluorescent tubes that flickered like crazy on dimmer packs, and swapping them wasn't an option. We ended up over-exposing slightly and trying to 'hide' the flicker in faster cuts on the FX6. It was far from perfect.

What's the biggest compromise you've had to make with practical lighting (bulbs, dimming, color control) when the 'ideal' just wasn't possible, and how did you manage to mitigate it on set?
