Reg CF and Wefunder: Shifting from campaigns to a 'community studio' model?
Hey everyone,
I'm Lucas, Gaffer on various narrative and commercial projects. I've been wrestling with a real mental shift lately regarding funding and project creation. Traditionally, it's been about individual campaigns, raise money, make a film, move to the next. I'm currently prepping a short film, a sci-fi piece we're shooting on a KOMODO-X with a mix of an Aputure LS 600d Pro and some Titan Tubes for practicals, and the budget is tight.
We're looking at a Wefunder push again, but it got me thinking. With the rise of Reg CF and platforms like Wefunder making it easier for communities to invest, I can't shake this idea of moving beyond one-off crowdfunding. It almost feels like a new model is emerging, where you're not just funding a project, but building a 'community studio', a sustained group of backers who are invested in a pipeline of content. I've seen some creators doing multiple campaigns, and it seems to build momentum.
Has anyone else experienced this shift? How has the rise of Reg CF and platforms like Wefunder changed your thinking from simple, project-specific campaigns towards building a more long-term 'community studio' model?
