On-Set Look Management Without a DIT/Big Budget - Your Creative Solutions?

Hey everyone, Grace Nakamura here, casting director. I'm hitting a common challenge these days and hoping for some collective wisdom.

I often work with indie narrative projects or smaller commercials where the ambition is high, but the DIT position or a dedicated grading tech isn't in the budget. We're talking typical setups with an ALEXA Mini or a KOMODO, usually pushing for a certain look. I've tried a few things, like really detailed pre-production mood boards and LUT pre-loading onto some SmallHD monitors, but it often feels like we're still 'guessing' a bit on set. The DP usually has a good eye, but without a dedicated system, live grading is rudimentary for everyone else.

Considering the typical lack of dedicated DIT or tools like Filmbox/Resolve on these kinds of sets, how have you all successfully adapted your on-set look management? What practical, budget-friendly workflows or tools have you implemented?
