Indie Film Audio: Loudness/Compliance on a Shoestring Budget?
Hey everyone,
I'm a location scout, but lately, I've been directing a small indie film (shot mostly on an AMIRA, sometimes a KOMODO-X for some tight shots). We have practically no audio budget beyond what we spent on the shoot itself (a couple of MKH 416s and some 6060 lavaliers). It's essentially a one-person show for most of post-production.
My concern is hitting those 'Loudness and Compliance' standards. I've heard horror stories about projects getting rejected for being too quiet or too loud, and with no dedicated sound mixer in post or professional gear to speak of, I'm a bit lost. I'm doing my best to mix it by ear, but I know that's not going to cut it for broadcast or festivals.
Are there any free or super cheap tools, or even just clever techniques, that you've used to get your audio levels compliant without needing a sound studio and a team? I desperately want to avoid rejections based on something I can hopefully fix at home.
